Much more than a hobby

In 1971, Aaron was encouraged to "get a hobby."  Aaron being Aaron, he managed to turn his love of horses into much more than just a hobby.  It became a second business, along with the sawmill, and just as successful in its own way.

Aaron and Marie Jones received their third Eclipse Award in January of 2001.  This one was for their mare, Riboletta, as Older Female Horse of the Year for 2000 after winning five Grade 1 races that year.  Their earlier winners of this same award include Lemhi Gold, for Champion Older Male in 1982, and Tiffany Lass for Champion Three-Year-Old Filly in 1986.

In 2004, two horses bred by Aaron and Marie Jones won Breeders’ Cup races. Speightstown won the Breeders’ Cup Spring (G1) and was named champion sprinter, and Ashado won the Breeders’ Cup Distaff Presented by Nextel (G1) and was named champion three-year-old filly. In 2005, Ashado earned champion older female honors.

In 2005, The Joneses received the P. A. B. Widener Award from the Kentucky Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association, honoring a lifetime of breeding excellence

Aaron and Marie Jones added another accomplishment to their stable of awards when Drosselmeyer, a horse they bred, won the Belmont Stakes (G1) on June 5, 2010.
